Job Summary

​Manages team of media relations specialists, including the implementation of enterprise, regional, and institutional public relations strategies. Develops and owns the strategic earned media program, seeking to enhance Geisinger's brand awareness and reputation as well as delivering strategic business results through earned media in local, regional, and national media markets. Oversees the earned media team's day-to-day operations, including reporter/editor outreach and management, editing team outputs and managing the team's workload through the use of project management software.

Job Duties

  • Accountable for developing, implementing, and improving the strategic earned media program in support of enterprise, regional, and institute marketing and communications plans.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the media relations team with a focus on goals and deliverables achievement, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Develops and oversees all earned media data, analytics, and reporting.
  • Proactively seeks out opportunities to enhance Geisinger's brand awareness and reputation through local, regional and national media.
  • Develops strategies, plans and tactical schedules for major initiatives, announcements, and events.
  • Works cross-functionally with marketing, digital/web, community relations, internal communications, and other cross-functional teams to ensure consistent and accurate communications.
  • Provides strategic media counsel and training to key executives, physicians, board members, and other spokespeople who interact with news media.
  • Cultivates and maintains excellent working relationships with executive leadership, managers, staff, physicians, and others to generate stories, images, and other news media content for traditional and new media purposes.
  • Recommends adjustments to earned media processes, strategies, and tactics.
  • Supports Director, Media Relations and Public Affairs with issues/crisis management and strategic national media.
  • Maintains online media center content and resources to ensure positive user experience.
  • Maintains systemwide database of local, regional, and national media contacts.
  • Proactively seeks out professional development opportunities for the earned media team.
  • When necessary, acts as a media spokesperson on behalf of the health system.
  • Leads and advises earned media team's efforts to pitch, coordinate, and execute media opportunities.
  • Develops and disseminates news, photos, videos, and other timely information to news media, trades, and digital, and social media.
  • When necessary, plans and oversees press events. Assures accuracy of communications.
  • Maintains online media center content and ensures positive user experience.
  • Leverages digital and social media tools to reach and interact with a wide range of media outlets, including broadcast, newspaper, magazine, trade press, bloggers, clinical journals, and more.
  • Develops collaborative working relationships with local, regional, and national media contacts.
  • Shares information about news media activities with the health system's marketing, web, and internal communications teams to ensure coordination and communication of media coverage with other internal and external audiences.


Work is typically performed in an office environment. Travel may be required. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures. Position Details

Remote work option, but must be commutable to North East and North Central Pennsylvania for on-site business needs as required.

Education

Bachelor's Degree- (Required)

Experience

Minimum of 5 years-Related work experience (Required), Minimum of 2 years-Managerial/Supervisory (Preferred)
