Internship Assignment Summary:
Summer internship position designed to expand the knowledge and skills of the intern related to laboratory science / health science career field through immersion in fast-paced reference laboratory testing environment. Intern will be exposed to multiple aspects of the laboratory profession: sample collection, preparation, testing, quality assurance, correlation studies, and correlation of laboratory data to clinical diagnosis, with possible duties including the following:
Receiving/Accessioning of specimens.
Aliquoting of specimens for initial and confirmatory testing.
Assisting Technologists with management of workflow and re-filling of reagents and QC (Screening, Extractions and Mass Spectrometry).
Loading and unloading of initial testing batches onto the screening instrumentation in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and supervisor guidance (Screening).
Maintain inventory of laboratory or instrument supplies and reagents. Notify appropriate personnel or supervisor of any shortages.
Work on projects assigned by the intern manager.
Education/Qualifications/Skills:
Pursuing a bachelor?s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Medical Laboratory Science (Preferred)
Has experience delivering multiple projects in an academic or professional setting
Computer knowledge and data entry skills; experience with Microsoft Office applications preferred
Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders and internal/external colleagues
Must be able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in fast paced, high-volume environment and while prioritizing and manage multiple tasks
Able to work independently under general supervision
Expressed desire and interest to work in a laboratory as a technologist after completing an undergraduate degree
About the Position:
Scheduled Days: Monday-Friday
Scheduled Hours: 7:30am - 4:00pm
Benefits: Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
